County Jail

The Mille Lacs County Jail is licensed by the State of Minnesota to house up to 120 inmates that are separated into two housing units. Inmates include sentenced and pre-trial adult male and female offenders. In addition to the two housing units, the Intake area can hold 5 additional inmates.

The jail also includes: a recreational room, two library/programming rooms, medical unit, laundry facility, fully staffed kitchen and master control center.

Each housing unit contains video visiting stations, telephones for inmate use, televisions with basic limited programming, dayroom area with a microwave, gaming tables and a natural lighting source.

Each inmate is issued a tablet during the intake period. Tablets are used for phone calls, video visitations, law library and program content. The tablets allow for less inmate movement which in turns provides better safety for the inmates and officers.

Portions of the Mille Lacs County Jail date back to 1974. Additions were added in 1999 and again in 2007.

Facility Study

Mille Lacs County recently completed a jail facility study to evaluate detention options, including the housing of inmates in other facilities, remodeling of the existing jail, and construction of a new jail.
