Firstly, what was the Treaty of Versailles?It is a World War I ending document signed on June 28, 1919. A peace treaty which settled the conflict between the allied powers and Germany. It was signed at the Versailles Place by British Prime Minister David Lloyd George, French Premier George Clemenceau and US President Woodrow Wilson. The main terms of ToV were: 1) The Surrender of all German colonies be controlled by the newly created League of Nations; 2) The return of Alsace-Lorraine to France; 3) German land used to create the new countries of Czechoslovakia and Poland; 4) Accept the sole guilt in causing the war; 5) German troops banned from the Rhineland; 5) Ban of an alliance between Germany and Austria; 6) Limitation of the Germany army to 100,000 men with no conscription, no tanks, no heavy artillery and no aircraft; and 7)German Navy limited to vessels under 100,00 tons, with no submarinesHow did Hitler break the terms of ToV?Hitler built up his army in secret, in 1933, Hitler ordered his army generals to prepare to triple the size of the army to 300,000 men. He ordered the Air Ministry to plan to build 1,000 war planes. In 1935, he openly held a huge rearmament rally, the Nazis had 2,500 war planes in its Luftwaffe and an army of 300,000 men in its Wehrmacht. Hitler felt confident enough to publicly announce that there would be a conscription in Nazi Germany and that the army would be increased to 550,000 men. In 1936, Hitler broke the Treaty of Versailles by moving 22,000 troops into the Rhineland demilitarised zone.Hitler also broke the Treaty of Versailles in 1938 by invading Austria and declaring Anschluss. By the end of 1938, Hitler was doing the same thing in the Sudentenland, which the Treaty of Versailles had given to Czechoslovakia.
